Censorship Now began as a college radio show in January 2022, amidst a pandemic. Through iPhone recording and Garageband, the initial episodes were published as a sort of amateur podcast that simply explored my music taste. From September 2022 until today, Censorship Now airs live from the Radio DePaul studio in Chicago every Wednesday at 10:00 pm (22:00) CST.
Episodes consist of themed genre recommendations, live performances, live and recorded interviews as well as discussions on any topic that crosses my mind. In naming the show, my idea was to open as many doors as possible in terms of the content included as long as it followed the phrase "censor the mainstream."
At the beginning of 2024, Censorship Now became a larger project, aimed to explore the importance of local and underground communities and the cultures they foster, including the past, present and future. Not only as a way to explore my own identity, Censorship Now also serves to give a glimpse at the stark similarities we all have to each other as humans; exploring how easily this can be forgotten as time passes and rapid changes only get faster. Past episodes of Censorship Now will be made available on SoundCloud in the very near future, but for the time being, feel free to sign-up and explore the Substack :)
